Reflecting on snow days, absences due to illness, anticipating Spring Break, etc., has allowed for the formulation
of the following guidelines regarding making up classroom assignments.
• Please remember when you call in your student’s absence for the day, to request homework at that time and
to communicate the manner in which it will go home. Options thus far seem to be sending homework home with a
sibling or neighbor, or leaving homework in extended daycare for those able to pick it up on their way home from
work. Faculty appreciate the earliest possible notification of request for homework as this allows them time to
gather it during their day.
• Regarding extended absences, Archdiocesan policy states that when a student is going to be out of school for
a period of time, (eg. scheduled surgery or medical treatment, family vacation which does not correlate to school
vacation, etc.) the school is required to allow the student the same amount of days to complete his/her missed
work. The school is not obligated to prepare work for the student prior to his/her absence but is required to allow
compensatory time following the student’s return to school to complete the work. In other words, if the student
misses three days of school, he/she is permitted three days in which to make up his/her work.
• Please remember also if your child is arriving late but will be here before lunch to inform the office when you
call if your student needs a school lunch.
When notifying your student’s teacher via e-mail of an absence, please also email to dcrews@saintsusanna.com
so that the office will also be aware.
